The Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Ruhr-OWL, which is closely linked to it’s OWL, will also provide information on offers for companies such as transfer projects. In addition, the center uses two demonstrators to illustrate the potential of robotics and image processing with the help of AI. The first demonstrator is currently being developed in the SmartFactoryOWL and represents an application from a production line. In industry, automated picking up of different types of small parts by robots is problematic – often the parts have different sizes and lie in random positions on a collection surface.
The demonstrated solution connects the robot with a camera and deep learning algorithms. This allows it to visually recognize and process the constantly changing positions. The demonstrator sorts commercially available terminal blocks and can be used as a mobile process module in factories. The demonstrator was developed by Fraunhofer IOSB-INA in the German-Canadian project ‘it’s 3DL’ by it’s OWL.
