Six times HEDELIUS in four years

Steingross Feinmechanik GmbH & Co. KG specializes in the production of sophisticated CNC turned parts and CNC milled parts and has relied heavily on HEDELIUS as a technology partner since 2019 – including in the automation of production.

Since 2006, the company has been located in the Berlin-Adlershof Science and Technology Park. Accordingly, the majority of its orders come from the scientific sector. Up to 1,200 different parts are manufactured every month, in quantities ranging from 1 to 5,000. With simultaneous 5-axis machining, CNC turning with up to 8 axes, and a wide range of materials and manufacturing capabilities, Steingross serves applications from optics, pharmaceuticals, and environmental technology to automation, vacuum technology, laser technology, and aerospace engineering. "We do a lot of things that people, when they look at the drawing, say, "That's impossible," explains Gregor Ligdorf, one of three managing directors and head of production at Steingross, describing the technical demands of the manufactured components. "Precision is our number one priority."

FORTE 65 Single 1320 “Absolutely Reliable”

In 2017, the construction of a new production hall created ample space: instead of 750 square meters, 2,500 square meters were now available. Two years later, the first machine from HEDELIUS, the FORTE 65 Single 1320 3-axis machining center, was acquired – one of what are now 24 production machines. “The FORTE 65 runs absolutely reliably,” says Ligdorf. With travel distances of 1,320 × 650 × 600 millimeters, a clamping surface of 1,500 × 650 millimeters, and a heavy-duty fixed table, the FORTE 65 offers plenty of room for a wide variety of components while maintaining a compact footprint. The robust traveling column design ensures high dynamics regardless of workpiece weight, thus creating the basis for precise, stable processes.“

Turn on the demonstration program”

Gregor Ligdorf still remembers the visit to HEDELIUS well: “We drove to Meppen with our operators and said: ‘Turn on the demonstration program. We want to see what the machine can really do’ – and that was indeed very convincing.”
