Damage to bearings and subsequent heating of rollers can lead to a fire in a conveyor system. In order to warn plant operators in advance of a roller failure, Artur Küpper GmbH & Co. KG (AKT) has developed an intelligent and flexible monitoring system in cooperation with the Institute of Logistics and Material Handling Systems (ILM) of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU).
A sensor network based on LoRaWANTM is an essential component of this fully automated, continuous IIoT monitoring system, which prevents unplanned downtimes and increases productivity and thus economic efficiency.
The use of Sensing Idler technology avoids unplanned downtime caused by overheated rollers. This significantly increases productivity, economic efficiency, operational safety as well as occupational health and safety in the conveyor system.
The Sensing Idler system can be configured as a stand-alone system or integrated into an existing monitoring and control system. The OPC UA interface, for example, can be used for this purpose.
