Retrofit frame drilling system for Up-and-over garage doors

A high-performance custom solution

For over 68 years, Ottemeier has been synonymous with customized solutions and technical expertise in special-purpose machine construction. We not only develop and build new machines, but also create tailor-made solutions for existing systems. A recent example is the development of a frame drilling system for Up-and-over garage doors. We designed the system as a retrofit solution and integrated it into an existing customer system. In doing so, we had to take into account the existing plant structure, space constraints, interfaces, and existing processes.

A key focus of the technical development was the modernization of the drive technology. The previous hydraulic components were significantly reduced and replaced with electric drives and pneumatics. This resulted in a modern, energy-efficient, and precise solution that is optimally tailored to the requirements of the existing plant.

The frames are automatically loaded into the system via a shuttle and securely clamped in place using pneumatically operated toggle clamps. Drilling and slotting are then performed automatically. Once machining is complete, the finished component is automatically transported out of the machine.

Thanks to movable axes in the X and Y directions, the system can be flexibly adapted to different frame and door sizes. In this way, the retrofit combines the existing machine structure with modern electronics, drive technology, and pneumatics, enhancing the existing system both technically and functionally.
