About us
Whether it's the energy transition, a shortage of skilled workers, geopolitical changes or fragile supply chains - industry in Germany is facing major challenges. We are developing solutions for these. it's OWL: the competence network for Industry.Zero.
In the leading-edge cluster it's OWL - Intelligent Technical Systems OstWestfalenLippe - more than 220 companies, research institutions and organizations are developing solutions for intelligent products and processes so that companies can produce and work more sustainably.
For more than ten years, it's OWL has developed solutions and applications in around 500 projects on topics such as artificial intelligence and intelligent product development, thus supporting companies with digitalization. it's OWL is building on its expertise as the largest initiative for Industry 4.0 and, as a 'competence network for Industry.Zero', aims to make OstWestfalenLippe a model region for sustainable value creation.

AI in companies: LEGO model shows potentials
Applications of AI solutions in various industries will be vividly presented at the joint stand by the it's OWL competence center Arbeitswelt.Plus and the it's OWL project Datenfabrik.NRW using a LEGO model. Visitors can use the Arbeitswelt.Plus model to experience how AI is revolutionizing laundry technology, for example, how it optimizes sequence planning in production or how AI supports companies in their sales planning. The LEGO model of Datenfabrik.NRW illustrates how AI is revolutionizing production and factory planning at the agricultural machinery manufacturer Claas and at Schmitz Cargobull, the leading manufacturer of semi-trailers, bodies and trailers in Europe.

it's OWL focuses on AI and Industrie.Zero
Under the title 'Industrie.Zero', OstWestfalenLippe is to become a model region for sustainable value creation. To this end, the technology network it's OWL is developing new solutions and technologies with the support of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the region's companies and research institutions. For the reduction of CO2 emissions and circular value creation. For intelligent energy supply and sustainable product development. And for new forms of skilled labor development. Trade fair participants can learn more about 'Industrie.Zero' and how companies can concretely benefit from the technology network and its partners at the it's OWL joint stand.
Fraunhofer IOSB-INA demonstrates AI robotics in interaction
Fraunhofer IOSB-INA presents an AI robotics demonstration that mimics bimanual movements. With the help of AI, robots can learn to perform complex manual tasks that were previously reserved for humans. This opens up new opportunities for companies to automate monotonous or physically demanding tasks and relieve the burden on employees.

Flexible welding with Fraunhofer IEM
The Fraunhofer Institute for Mechatronic Design IEM demonstrates how robotics and automation can support skilled workers in practice with its mobile welding robot system KiroS. The system is mounted on a tracked vehicle and can even be used on uneven ground. A collaborative robot arm guides the welding torch, controlled by a profile sensor that finds the optimal seam even when components deviate from the norm. This not only makes welding large and complex components more precise, but also easier for users without special prior knowledge. For medium-sized companies, this means less dependence on skilled labor shortages, higher quality in production, and more flexibility in processes.

Sustainable mobility and component testing at TH OWL
