HEIDENHAIN KCI 120 and KBI 136: Inductive rotary encoders for more robust compact motors
Completing the spectrum of HEIDENHAIN inductive rotary encoders, the KCI 120 and KBI 136 meet the demand for compact solutions with large hollow-shaft diameters. Available in 30 mm and 40 mm hollow shaft sizes, they extend the benefits of the 1300 series to more robust robot motors.

HEIDENHAIN KCI 1318 FOT and KBI 1335 FOT: Reduced parts and space requirements thanks to fan-out technology
HEIDENHAIN designed the KCI 1300 (singleturn) and KBI 1300 (multiturn) inductive rotary encoders specifically for compact motors in robots and other applications. Each series includes a fan-out-technology (FOT) variant featuring the encoder electronics on a metal carrier. Besides reducing the required space and number of parts, this metal component can double as the motor’s bearing cover while dissipating heat directly to the outside. These special encoders, the KCI 1138 FOT and KBI 1335 FOT, are mounted via a disk/hub assembly that is press-fitted onto the motor shaft.

HEIDENHAIN KCI and KBI 1300: The inductive rotary encoder for compact motors
The HEIDENHAIN KCI 1300 (singleturn) and KBI 1300 (multiturn) inductive rotary encoders consist of a scanning unit and a screw-fastened circular scale or a press-fitted disk/hub assembly. Key features include low weight, a flat design and a 25 mm hollow shaft. Immune to contamination and magnetic fields, they are the perfect solution for position measurement on compact motors in robots and other applications. Mounting is both simple and secure thanks to generous tolerances and mechanically safety. With the EnDat 2.2 interface, their data transmission is highly reliable and functionally safe. Dependable operation can be further enhanced by an external temperature sensor for overload protection.

HEIDENHAIN KCI 120 Dplus dual encoder: New horizons in advanced robotics
The HEIDENHAIN KCI 120 Dplus inductive rotary encoder provides position feedback both upstream and downstream from a robot joint’s gear system. To achieve this dual measurement, the encoder employs a single inductive scanning unit with two separate circular scales. By measuring the axis position downstream from the gearbox, the encoder compensates for the inaccuracies inherent in highly articulated robots. To ensure maximum versatility, the KCI 120 Dplus is available in three versions. Their variously sized central scanning unit and two separate disk/hub assemblies cover a range of hollow-shaft diameters and installation dimensions. All variants of the HEIDENHAIN KCI 120 Dplus feature a compact form factor, easy integration and the equal functionality. The KCI 120 Dplus and its variants expand the spectrum of possible robot applications, up to and including high-precision machining tasks. And when used with the functionally safe EnDat 2.2 purely serial interface, these encoders are even suitable for safety-related applications such as cobots for human-robot collaboration.

RENCO R35i and R35iL rotary encoders: The new generation of rotary encoders for stepper and BLDC motors
The RENCO R35i and R35iL compact rotary encoders provide valuable benefits in a variety of applications. In lab automation and liquid handling equipment, they ensure high throughput and reliable operation. Or in driverless automated guided vehicles (AGV), they deliver high performance and extensive monitoring and diagnostic functions. The RENCO incremental rotary encoders without an integral bearing ensure fast and accurate positioning for the stepper and BLDC motors used on the many axes and belts in blood-testing machines. With a resolution of 40 000 measuring steps per revolution, they are the ideal motor feedback solution for applications of this type. And for tight installation spaces, the RENCO R35iL features a height of only 8.6 mm, making it one of the flattest rotary encoders on today’s market. The RENCO R35i and R35iL are easy to install, even in challenging spaces. Their convenient self-centering mechanism ensures fast and precise alignment on the motor shaft. Proper installation can be verified with a PWT 101 testing device and its integrated traffic-light mounting assistant.
Reliable part inspection: Meet the new generation of METRO and SPECTO length gauges from NUMERIK JENA
Part inspection is a vital step both during and after machining. Production metrology and quality inspection teams now have a new tool for ensuring perfect products for their customers: the new generation of METRO and SPECTO length gauges from NUMERIK JENA. Thanks to a much slimmer design, these improved length gauges provide new opportunities in multi-gauge fixture design, including a greater number of measuring points. An important factor during development of the new length gauges was versatility. Their standardized platform design with multiple variants provides an adaptable modular system able to meet nearly any requirement in production metrology, quality assurance, measuring equipment monitoring and position measurement. When it comes to installation, the METRO and SPECTO are mutually compatible, allowing different variants to be used in the same application. This feature increases versatility during the initial setup of a measuring station and facilitates adaptions within existing setups. Reduced cost and effort are the result. Further benefits include robustness and consistently high accuracy across the entire measuring range. Measurement reliability is ensured.

HEIDENHAIN ECI 1122 and EQI 1134: The next generation of inductive scanning
HEIDENHAIN will be showcasing its next generation of inductive scanning technology, realized in the ECI 1122 and EQI 1134 rotary encoders. Designed for high-performance automation solutions, these new encoders feature low noise, low speed ripple and extensive operating data. Featuring the EnDat 3 interface, they are also compatible the HMC 2 single-cable solution. At first glance, the new HEIDENHAIN ECI 1122 and EQI 1134 inductive rotary encoders don’t seem different from other models within the series. Their specs, however, tell a different story, especially their improved singleturn position resolution of 22 bits. This higher resolution strongly mitigates a motor’s speed ripple and position noise. The new ECI 1122 and EQI 1134 rotary encoders are a perfect response to the current automation trends toward ever greater accuracy, performance, process reliability and cost efficiency.

HEIDENHAIN EnDat 3 interface: Integrate digital encoders
HEIDENHAIN has preserved the longstanding benefits of its EnDat interface technology while continuously developing it for the future of digitalization. To show this in action, HEIDENHAIN will provide two demonstrations: Over just four wires, three different encoders will transmit position, sensor and monitoring data in EnDat 3 bus mode at a cycle time of 30 µs. And in a different setup, encoders installed at each joint of a measuring arm will transmit position feedback using the same technology. The benefits of this technology are functional safety, extensive diagnostics and less cabling. EnDat 3 is the ideal encoder interface for achieving high system integration. It lowers system costs, enables a flexible machine architecture and meets the requirements of future digitalization.
