Hochschule Bielefeld, Institut für Systemdynamik und Mechatronik (ISyM)
About us
For the past 10 years, ISyM has been a recognized partner of companies, as well as scientific and public institutions, in the development of novel and innovative technical systems that contribute to the efficient solution of challenging technological problems. These problems increasingly arise from the central societal challenges of our time and, due to their complexity, require interdisciplinary approaches such as those offered by mechatronics. The institute's members combine their expertise from the mechatronic domains of electrical engineering, control engineering, computer science, and mechanical engineering for the synergistic development of systems that, thanks to their interaction, adaptation, and cooperation capabilities, are able to perform complex tasks efficiently and, where applicable, autonomously. The use of interdisciplinary approaches provides the key added value in the design of sustainable mechatronic systems. For example, methods from the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and automation are used to create future-oriented solutions for applications in the industrial, mobility, and healthcare sectors. With its focus areas of Intelligent Systems, Human Mechatronics & Medical Technology, and Connected Mobility, ISyM participates in the CareTech OWL research consortium and the RailCampus OWL innovation network. In this role, the institute has a broad network of local and regional partners from science, politics, and industry with whom it conducts joint research projects.
